Retaining walls, three stair flights, planter walls and the full ground slab for a multi-unit residential build — installed direct for head contractor M&D Construction.

Keiraville sits on the side of the escarpment, and this one was cut into it. Sandstone face along one boundary, a benched excavation, houses tight on both sides, and a multi-unit residential structure to sit on top of it. MJK installed the reinforcement across the whole ground floor structure, direct to head contractor M&D Construction.
The steel came in seven call-offs — retaining wall, three separate stair flights, planter and blockwork balustrade reo, then the ground slab in stages: bottom reo, beams, starters and Z-bars, top reo. Roughly 18.5 tonnes all up, fixed in four days on site — on that scope, at that level of detailing.
On a site this size the sequencing is the job. Each call-off has to be fixed and signed off before the next one is useful, and the pour date does not move because a bar mark was missed. So we work drawings first, steel second. Bar marks checked against the schedule as it lands. Cover confirmed before a chair goes down. Starters tied where the engineer put them, so the wall crew following us finds them there and not two hundred millimetres out.
The steel goes in right, the programme stays put, and the builder gets to think about something else.
A different crew size every day. That is the point.
Reinforcement is not a fixed-headcount trade. What decides a builder’s week is whether the right number of fixers turn up on the right morning — and the right number on Thursday is rarely the right number on Monday.
On this job the crew was sized to what each day’s call-off actually needed. Three stair flights do not take the same numbers as a slab pour lead-up. A crew booked at one size for the week is either standing around or short, and the builder pays for both.
MJK was engaged direct by M&D Construction, so there was no layer between the person setting those numbers and the people on the steel. Seven call-offs, four days, 18.5 tonnes.
